Reflections from RootsTech 2026: Continuing the Journey of Family Discovery

Last week I stepped away from posting for a few days because I was attending the annual genealogy conference RootsTech 2026—virtually this year.
Even from home, the experience was inspiring.
RootsTech brings together thousands of genealogists, historians, and family researchers from around the world to share ideas, research strategies, and new tools that help us better understand our family stories. The sessions I attended covered everything from traditional research methods to new approaches in DNA analysis.
As someone who works in investigative genetic genealogy, continuing education is an important part of my work. Genealogy is constantly evolving as new records are digitized, new DNA tools are developed, and researchers share new methodologies.
Events like RootsTech provide an opportunity to step back, learn from other professionals, and explore fresh ways to approach the research challenges our clients bring to us.
One of the things I appreciate most about the genealogy community is the shared passion for discovery. Every family has a story waiting to be uncovered—sometimes hidden in records, sometimes revealed through DNA, and sometimes found in the memories and traditions passed down through generations.
Participating in RootsTech this year reminded me why I love this work.
Helping people discover their connections, understand their origins, and piece together their family stories is both meaningful and deeply rewarding.
I’m looking forward to applying what I learned this week as I continue working with clients through Faith Walk Genealogy.
Because every discovery—big or small—moves us one step closer to understanding the journey that brought our families to where they are today.
