A Journey of Faith: From Healthcare to Genetic Genealogy
Life's most meaningful paths often reveal themselves gradually, like pieces of a family tree coming into focus. For over two decades, I built a career in healthcare, never imagining how perfectly it would prepare me for my true calling in genetic genealogy.
My foundation began in clinical laboratory science, where I immersed myself in molecular biology. As I progressed from running molecular testing to overseeing laboratory compliance and eventually moving into management with an MBA, I was unknowingly gathering the precise tools I would need for my future work. The intricate understanding of genetics and DNA inheritance I gained during those years would prove invaluable.
In 2017, what started as a simple exploration of my family history became a passion that would change the course of my life. As I uncovered each branch of my family tree, I found myself increasingly drawn to the detective work of genealogy. Little did I know that this personal interest would soon bloom into something much larger.
The pivotal moment came in 2023 when God made it clear it was time for a new chapter. I took a leap of faith, leaving my established career without fully knowing where the path would lead. But as doors began to open, the direction became clear. I immersed myself in professional development, completing courses through the National Genealogical Society and Your DNA Guide. I attended conferences focusing on various aspects of genetic genealogy, from basic research to forensic investigation. Each step of learning reinforced that I was following the right path.
As I began helping friends and family with their genealogical research, word spread, and new clients found their way to me. My involvement with DNAngels, a non-profit organization helping individuals locate their unknown genetic parents, added another meaningful dimension to my work. Each case reinforced the profound impact of connecting people with their roots and helping them understand their genetic heritage.
When it came time to name my business, I reflected deeply on the nature of genealogical research. I realized that each client embarks on their own journey of faith as we work together. None of us knows exactly what we will discover as we trace the branches of a family tree or unravel DNA connections. Every step requires trust in the process and faith in where the evidence will lead us.
That is how Faith Walk Genealogy was born. The name encapsulates not only my personal journey of following God's guidance into this field but also the shared experience I have with each client as we walk together in faith, uncovering their family history one discovery at a time.
My background in healthcare, particularly in molecular biology and genetics, now serves as the perfect foundation for helping others understand their genetic connections and family histories. What seemed like separate chapters in my life – healthcare, management, genetic testing, and genealogy research – have woven together into a perfect tapestry, highlighting how God's plan can unfold in unexpected but beautiful ways.
As I continue this journey with Faith Walk Genealogy, each new client reminds me that we are all walking by faith, not by sight. Whether we are searching for unknown parents, confirming family connections, or simply exploring our roots, every step forward requires trust, patience, and faith in the journey.
"For we live by faith, not by sight." 2 Corinthians 5:7 NIV Bible
